Jesús en Halloween

En este día, en la cultura Americana (y quizás otras culturas) observamos que hay personas que se disfrazan de diferentes personajes y otras cosas. No estoy segura de lo que están celebrando ni tampoco me interesa debatirlo.  Hoy hay muchísima gente de diferentes razas, religiones y culturas quienes se disfrazan y salen a las calles para pedir dulces.  Al ver esto, una pregunta vino a mi mente y me parece que hoy es el día apropiado para hacérmela y también para hacértela a ti.

Mi pregunta es... vemos el cristianismo como algo que solo se hace los domingos?

Nos vestimos cada domingo a la mañana con nuestro disfraz perfecto y hacemos el papel de Jesús, pero una vez que se acaba el domingo regresamos a nuestra vida normal? Es Jesús alguien a quien observamos de lejos o es El a quien le damos participación en nuestra vida? nos disfrazamos de Jesús para poner una fachada de alguien que sabemos que en realidad no somos?  O estamos dejando que El entre en nuestras vidas y nos transforme de adentro hacia afuera? Jesús no es un disfraz de Halloween, es un estilo de vida. El es alguien que causo un gran impacto hace dos mil años y continua haciéndolo hasta el día de hoy.  El es el mejor amigo que podemos tener.  Jesús, mis amigos, no es alguien que podemos imitar una vez a la semana.  EL LO ES TODO!

Jesus For Halloween

During this day in American culture (and maybe other cultures) we see a lot of people dress up as different characters and personas, not sure what is being celebrated but I’m not going to get into all that. Today there are tons of people of different races, religions and cultures who come together to dress up and go around asking for free candy. As I observed people this day a question dawned on me and I figured today is an appropriate day not only to ask myself this question but also to ask you all the same question.

My question to you is this… Do we treat Christianity as a one-day thing?

Allow me to expand:

Do we dress up on Sunday morning with our perfect “costume” and play the Jesus role but then once we’ve checked that box on our “to-do list” we go back to our daily lives? Is Jesus just a person we merely imitate from afar or is He someone we allow to participate in and through us? Do we dress up as Jesus to put up a façade of someone we know deep down we really aren’t? Or are we really letting Jesus take root in the deepest, innermost parts of our lives and transforming us from the inside out? Jesus isn’t a Halloween costume; He’s a lifestyle. Jesus is someone who made an impact thousands of years ago and continues to do that to this day. He is the closest and coolest friend you’ll ever have. Jesus, my friends, is not an option for a one-day “holiday costume” or a once a week Sunday service; He is EVERYTHING.

Quite Simple

Some time ago when I had a Volkswagen Beetle there was an occasion where I was driving at night and I wanted to close the window when I realized that the panel that controls the windows had fallen out of place, though I tried for 10 or 15 minutes I could not fix it. Those who have a Beetle will know that the light of these cars is of very low intensity and so consequently I saw very little. I thought, " I'll have to take it to the car dealer!"

The next day, now with the morning light, I looked and realized that it was very easy to fix, all I needed was light.

This story reminded me of the times we’ve tried to "fix" our problems in the dark, which is impossible to do because we need the light of God to overcome everything.

The Bible says:

John 1:1-5 (NIV)

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² He was with God in the beginning. ³ Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. ⁴ In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. ⁵ The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

It also says :

John 8:12 (NIV)

¹² When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Believe it or not, Jesus is the solution to the problems of this life; He is the one who can "fix" everything. He brings light into your darkness and meaning into your life. If you feel a big emptiness in your heart, remember, He alone can fill you. Jesus is not a theory, I know because I experience Him everyday and with him I feel complete!

Bastante Simple

Hace un tiempo atrás tenía un Volkswagen Beetle (Volkswagen “escarabajo”) era de noche, yo estaba conduciendo y cuando quise cerrar el vidrio me dí cuenta que el panel que controla las ventanas había quedado fuera de lugar, aunque intenté por 10 o 15 minutos no pude arreglarlo. Los que tienen un Beetle sabrán que la luz de esos autos es de muy poca intensidad, en consecuencia no veía nada. Entonces pensé: “tendré que llevarlo al concesionario!”

Al siguiente día y ya con la luz de la mañana volví a mirar y me dí cuenta que era algo muy fácil de arreglar, solo necesitaba luz para solucionarlo. Esta historia se repite en la vida de muchas personas que intentan “arreglar” sus problemas en la oscuridad, lo cual es imposible, necesitarán la luz de Dios para lograrlo.

La Biblia dice en:

Juan 1:1-5 (NVI)

1 En el principio ya existía el *Verbo,
    y el Verbo estaba con Dios,
    y el Verbo era Dios.
² Él estaba con Dios en el principio.
³ Por medio de él todas las cosas fueron creadas;
    sin él, nada de lo creado llegó a existir.
⁴ En él estaba la vida,
    y la vida era la luz de la *humanidad.
⁵ Esta luz resplandece en las tinieblas,
    y las tinieblas no han podido extinguirla

Y también dice:

Juan 8:12 (NVI)

¹² Una vez más Jesús se dirigió a la gente, y les dijo:

—Yo soy la luz del mundo. El que me sigue no andará en tinieblas, sino que tendrá la luz de la vida.

Lo creas o no, Jesús es la solución para los problemas de la vida, El es el único que puede “arreglarlo” todo. El trae luz a tu oscuridad y sentido a tu vida. Si sientes un vacío muy grande en tu corazón, recuerda, solo El puede llenarlo. Jesús no es una teoría, yo lo vivo día a día y con El me siento completa!

Su Gracia es Suficiente

...pero él me dijo: «Te basta con mi gracia, pues mi poder se perfecciona en la debilidad.» Por lo tanto, gustosamente haré más bien alarde de mis debilidades, para que permanezca sobre mí el poder de Cristo. 10 Por eso me regocijo en debilidades, insultos, privaciones, persecuciones y dificultades que sufro por Cristo; porque cuando soy débil, entonces soy fuerte. 2 Corintios 12:9-10 (NVI)

El orgullo... un gran peligro para tantos líderes. El mundo y la sociedad creen que el éxito de una persona radica en sus logros. Aunque es importante reconocer los logros de las personas, esto no debería ser la razón de su existencia. Ves, (y yo digo eso porque no vi!) Pablo dice en 1era de Corintios que se gloriaba en sus debilidades para que el poder de Dios repose sobre el.  

  A medida que mas leo la Biblia, mas me doy cuenta de que necesitamos fe para creer lo que nos enseña, porque nadie que este en su sano juicio andaría por la vida haciendo alarde de sus debilidades.  Pero a través de las escrituras vemos un patrón que se repite, Dios pidiendo a los creyentes que hagan cosas que para el mundo no tienen sentido.  Él nos pide que amemos a nuestros enemigos.  Nos enseña que mejor es dar que recibir.  Hasta sugiere que si hacemos alarde de nuestras debilidades su poder estará sobre nosotros y nos fortalecerá! Que concepto mas extraño... o no?

Mientras vivimos en un mundo en decadencia, en decadencia porque no es lo que Dios quiso desde el principio (Edén), vemos que lo que es normal para nosotros es anormal para Dios y lo que es anormal para nosotros es normal para Dios. Por muchas razones, demasiadas para mencionarlas el día de hoy, confío en que Dios a elegido su "normal" y nuestro trabajo como creyentes es hacer que ese "normal" de Dios descienda sobre nosotros, así como es en el cielo (Mateo 6:9-13). Debemos confiar en que los caminos y pensamientos del Señor son mejores que los nuestros. (Isaías 55:8-9)

Tenemos que tomar nuestra cruz cada día (Mateo 16:24-26) y la cruz no tiene un "final feliz" a nuestros ojos naturales.  La cruz no es algo lindo.... cruz significa muerte.  Muerte a que? Muerte a nosotros mismos.  Debemos morir diariamente. Morir para que Él viva y se glorifique en nosotros.

Entonces, en este día elijamos el morir a nosotros mismos y encontrar vida en la resurrección de Cristo.  Morir a la arrogancia.  Morir a que nos importe lo que la gente piensa acerca de nosotros. Morir a la auto preservación. Elijamos morir a todo lo que no es Cristo o no proviene de El.

Sufficient Grace

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9, 10 NIV)

Pride... What a common pitfall for so many leaders. This world and society highly esteems putting one's attention and focus on achievements and success'. Although, there is also an importance to recognizing ones achievements, that shouldn't shape the reason of our existence. You see, (and I say that because I didn't see!) Paul says here in 1 Corinthians that he will boast gladly in his weaknesses so that Gods power would rest on Him.

The more I read the Bible the more I realize that we need faith to believe what is taught in it because no one in their right mind would sit around boasting about their weaknesses. But, throughout Scripture there is a pattern of seeing God ask believers to do what is uncommon for our world. He asks us to love our enemies. He asks us to give instead of receive. He even suggests that if we boast in our weaknesses His power would rest on us and we would be strong! What a strange concept... Or is it so strange?

As we live in this fallen world, fallen because it's not what God intended in the beginning (Eden), we see that our "normal" is Gods abnormal and Gods "normal" is our abnormal. For many reasons, too much to dive into today, I will trust that God has chosen the better "normal" and our duty as believers is to bring that "normal" here on Earth as it is in Heaven (Matthew 6:9-13) and to trust that Gods ways are far better than our ways and His thoughts see beyond our puny capacity. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

We are to take up our cross daily (Matthew 16:24-26) and the cross isn't a "happy ending" to the natural eye. The cross isn't a pretty thing... the cross equals death. Death to what? Death to ourselves. We must be dying to ourselves daily. Die so that He may live and be glorified in us.

So, this day let's choose to die to ourselves and find life in Christ's resurrection. Death to pride. Death to arrogance. Death to caring about what people think about us. Death to self preservation. Death to everything that is not Christ or of Him.
