Mindful prayer

Listen to yourself when you pray! Someone is actually listening; don't speak to God as if He's not. There's no need to say "Lord God" after every sentence or any other common phrases or words. I think we've all done this and are guilty of it and I believe one of the reasons may be because we don't realize that God is actually listening to us. We find it hard to comprehend that someone that we cannot see is actually listening to our prayers. Well, whether you realize or understand it completely, He is listening. God has seen every tear you’ve cried and has heard every single one of your prayers. In which case, you need to speak to Him that way. When you pray speak to God like you would to anyone else. For example, you wouldn’t repeat a persons name after every single sentence. Also, you wouldn’t feel the need to raise your voice and yell at them for no good reason. Lastly, you wouldn’t need to speak to them while really directing your conversation to someone else.

Let me elaborate on this last note…I’ve seen this frequently in prayer actually. I’ve heard people pray but when they’re praying they’re really just preaching to others rather than speaking to God…

Back to the point, I think we need to be mindful when we pray. We need to pray/worship in Spirit and in truth, and by truth it means that we are actually mindful of what we are saying to God and not merely repeating cliché “Christianese”.

In conclusion, our prayer must be sincere; God deserves better from us.
