When Chaos Finds You on a Bridge in France

When Chaos Finds You on a Bridge in France

We were on a girls' trip—exploring, laughing, soaking in the beauty of London and France. I was about three months pregnant with Jonathan, and we were having a wonderful time just being together.

One afternoon in France, as we walked across a bridge, everything changed in an instant. A woman started shouting at us out of nowhere. Before we could even process what was happening, she lunged forward and ripped out a chunk of my friend’s hair. Completely. Just like that.

We were stunned—screaming, trying to understand how something so violent could happen so suddenly. The woman backed off, said something we couldn’t understand, and I yelled, “Leave now!” She finally walked away, and we were left in total shock.

We had to slow things down after that. The trip didn’t feel the same, and honestly, neither did we. It was scary. Jarring. Violating. My friend’s hair eventually grew back, but that moment stayed with all of us.

And here’s the thing—we all experience moments like that. Maybe not in the middle of Paris, but somewhere. Life throws things at us without warning—painful, unjust, chaotic things. And in those moments, we have a choice.

We can fall apart. Or we can rise—together.

That day, we didn’t fall apart. We held each other up. We moved forward as a unit. It was a moment of fear, yes—but it also revealed courage, sisterhood, and the resilience we didn’t even know we had.

And most of all, it reminded me of God’s covering.

Even in chaos, He is there. Even in the moments when evil tries to disrupt peace, His presence surrounds us. We weren’t alone on that bridge—and you’re not alone in whatever “bridge moment” you might be walking through either.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” —Psalm 46:1

We don’t get to control the chaos, but we do get to choose how we stand in it. And when we lean on each other and on God, we find strength that fear can’t shake.

You might not avoid every hard moment in life—but you can trust this: God walks with you through every one of them.

P.s. Safe to say... we probably won’t be doing a girls trip to France again anytime soon. Not without our husbands, anyway. 😂
